Energy Audit

Get an energy audit in Alexandria, VA and Washington D.C.

A comprehensive home energy audit is the first step to assess how much energy a building or operation consumes and to evaluate what measures you can take to make your building or operation more energy efficient. Your home is made up of a number of parts that affect its overall efficiency and comfort: weatherization of the building envelope (windows and walls); the heating and cooling system; insulation and more. So when one part has a problem, it can affect the ability of the other parts to function the way they are supposed to. This is why the home energy audit is designed to look at the whole house as a single system – also known as the “whole-house” approach. Otherwise, you may end up treating a symptom while overlooking the true root of the problem.

How does it work?

A home energy audit can identify areas in your home that consume the most energy, and cost-effective ways to improve the comfort and efficiency of your home. Our BPI certified home energy auditors will conduct a series of tests and measurements using several diagnostic tools that help paint a clear picture of the home’s efficiency and identify where problems may exist. The audit will include a thorough walk-through of your home – both indoors and out. The technician may use an infrared camera to get a visual on temperature differences in different areas, conduct a blower door test to depressurize the house and assess air leakage levels through the building envelope, and test for leakage in the duct work of your heating and cooling systems. The energy auditors will also perform other function and safety tests on heating and cooling equipment, including checking carbon monoxide levels and combustion appliance back-draft testing.

Live better

Energy audits are designed to teach you the many ways to live a healthier, safer, greener, and cheaper lifestyle by making cost-effective and health-improving retrofits to your home and its various systems. With a home energy audit, Eko Smart Solutions can identify in your home what consumes the most energy and identify locations that lose the most conditioned air through leaks, gaps, and other bypasses by using state of the art testing equipment. Our energy audit will clearly pinpoint these problems and suggest the most effective measures to cut your energy costs and ultimately “save you money."

Step-by step process

The first step of an energy audit is to test the infiltration rate of the homes envelope which identifies air leaks in the building structure. With a blower door, thermal infrared imaging, smoke puffers and some good detective work, we can locate all your unconditioned air leaks and give you a comprehensive print out of your homes energy efficiency.

Following the home energy audit, you will be provided a detailed report that provides you an objective evaluation of the home, and will include a recommendation on repairs or upgrades by the level of priority. Following any repairs or upgrades that are performed, a second home energy audit will be conducted to ensure that the repaired systems are performing at the desired levels.

If home repairs are recommended and completed to improve your home’s energy efficiency, a second test is performed with a second printout showing specific measurable results in how efficient the house now has become.

Eko Smart Solutions is a full-service contractor that can evaluate and address all types of energy deficiencies and we do not use subcontractors to perform residential or commercial related work.
